Aprilia RSV 4R

Aprilia have announced the 2010 RSV4 R, a cheaper version of the RSV4 Factory. Instead of Öhlins suspension, the RSV4 R gets a Showa fork and Sachs shock, its 60-degree V4 makes do with aluminium parts instead of the Factory’s magnesium bits, and the chassis isn’t adjustable for swingarm pivot point, steering head angle and engine position.

The significantly cheaper RSV4 R’s Showa/Sachs suspension is fully adjustable and the engine still produces 180bhp (though we suspect it may not be able to rev as high and/or as quickly as the RSV4 Factory’s engine). Also, with its ride-by-wire electronics, the bike still has three ride modes – Race, Sport and Road – for optimised power delivery for whatever conditions you might encounter.

Plastic instead of carbonfibre trim, aluminium instead of forged magnesium wheels and a bit more weight the R weighs 184kg, about five kilos more than the Factory

Aprilia RSV4 R brings the technology and unique character of the V4 that redefined sports performance on the track within the reach of all enthusiasts. With the advent of the R version, the Aprilia RSV4 - the bike that took the world by storm and set new standards for sports performance, both on the road and on the circuits of the SBK World Championship - is now accessible to an even broader group of enthusiasts.

RSV4 R maintains the same features that make the Aprilia RSV4 project so unique: the narrow 180 hp V4 engine, Ride-by-Wire integrated electronic management, dual injectors, race bred frame and suspension and extreme compactness.

Christened by Max Biaggi, the Aprilia RSV4 R is the latest product of the project that has brought Aprilia back to the pinnacle of the motorcycle world, both on the world's circuits and on the road.

A revolutionary project - starting from a blank piece of paper and drawing from the marque's unparalleled success on the racetrack - that led to the inception of the RSV4 SBK, the bike that Biaggi rode straight to victory in the World Superbike Championship, and a production bike which, in its Factory guise dedicated to circuit racing professionals, redefined the limits for the supersports genre.

Aprilia now presents the RSV4 R, a bike born from the same project in a new, more accessible guise, conceived to bring this fantastic machine within reach of expert riders who want to experience its technological supremacy.

To offer you the same sensations as you carve a perfect line from apex to apex that Max Biaggi experiences on the track in the World Superbike Championship, the Aprilia RSV4 R maintains all the features that make the superbike project so unique:

• COMPACTNESS: Minimised dimensions and weight, a 65° V4 engine as narrow as a twin, a chassis architecture defined around the engine and an effective but essential fairing.

• ENGINE PERFORMANCE: Class leading power, the torque of a twin, combined with the smooth power delivery and flexibility of a four cylinder, and dual injectors per cylinder. Technical and architectural solutions worthy of a genuine race prototype.

• ELECTRONICS: Second generation Ride by Wire with multiple maps (track, sport and road).

• CHASSIS ARCHITECTURE: Class beating solutions true to Aprilia traditions. The aluminium frame is built around the engine for maximum effectiveness both on the track and on the road. Suspension is completely adjustable.

• ITALIAN DESIGN: The unique style of the RSV4 R is the product of a painstaking design process and was conceived and developed in Aprilia's own design centre. The styling solutions enhance the bike's class beating compactness, which is further emphasised by the spectacular, ultra-short tail fairing.

Aprilia RS 125 Poggiali

Aprilia RS125 Poggiali

If you're sensible and treat it as an 80mph bike and occasionally play, it'll last you for ages. After a few miles of fun roll the throttle off and let it cool down for a bit: then play again. Another thing RS125 owners get caught out by is cold seizure; allow the bike to warm up properly. The temperature gauge may show the engine warming up, but as it warms to the point that the thermostat opens, cold water is pumped from the radiator around the engine shrinking it onto the pistons. This is particularly a problem on cold, frosty days. Start your bike up before you put on your gear, and then pull away at half throttle for the first couple of miles.

Aprilia Tuono V4R

The Aprilia Tuono V4R is an evil looking high-performance sports bike which is basically the unfaired version of the Aprilia RSV4 R.

The Aprilia Tuono V4R boasts power never before installed on a factory naked bike, obtained by reconfiguring the RSV4 Factory APRC SE four V cylinder.

The Tuono V4R uses features from the Special Edition including the new exhaust system with bypass valve, which is two kilos lighter than the system used on the RSV4 R, and latest generation Ride by Wire throttle control.

Differences from its race track sibling are closer spacing between the first three gear ratios, and a maximum torque output of 110 Nm on tap 1,000 rpm lower.

The Aprilia Tuono V4R features the same tail fairing, saddle, tank and side panels as Aprilia's WSBK racing machine.

The Tuono V4R uses the second generation version of Aprilia's APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) joystick - an electronic dynamics control package developed by Aprilia to get as close as possible to the physical limits of riding. APRC is based on an automotive inertia sensor platform, with two gyrometers and two accelerometers allowing the ECU to determine the dynamic state of the motorcycle and control engine torque accordingly to help the rider exploit the full performance potential of the bike in all conditions.

The APRC package of the Tuono V4R includes ATC traction control (Aprilia Traction Control), with eight selectable levels, which controls sliding when accelerating out of a curve in relation to bank angle and throttle aperture, AWC (Aprilia Wheelie Control), which helps the rider control extreme wheelying by gradually bringing the front wheel back to the ground, and AQS (Aprilia Quick Shift), which allows instantaneous upshifts without closing the throttle or using the clutch. Completing the suite of four functions is the most exhilarating of all: ALC (Aprilia Launch Control).

The Aprilia Tuono V4R also features a range of top-spec chassis components, including a Brembo brake system with radial callipers and 320 mm floating discs at the front (220 mm at the rear), aluminium wheels with an all-new design weighing 2 Kg less than those on the RSV4R, Sachs upside down front fork with 43 mm stanchions coated with titanium nitride for reduced friction, and Sachs shock absorber with separate piggy back nitrogen canister featuring adjustable spring preload, compression and rebound damping and length, to modify the setup of the bike to suit different riding styles or for when carrying a pillion.

Aprilia MX 125

Aprilia, as attentive as always to fashions and the market, has decided to attack the small capacity Supermotard segment. The first offering in this sense was the MX 50, now followed by the bigger 125 cc version. The MX 125 Supermotard is a slick, agile, easy-to-handle, dynamic, fast and extremely appealing bike. It follows the latest trends in the Supermotard bikes, and is ideal for everyday use. The MX 125 is perfect for a wide range of uses, featuring high performance and is never caught off-guard in any situation. In fact, a motorbike such as the MX 125 perfectly combines the professional essentials of a “real” motorbike with the urban mobility needs of dynamic young riders, without compromising on the “hard” ride, cultivating the passion of the “motards” and the chance to learn the riding techniques of the champions in this speciality. All clearly with the safety of the high level technical components that define the 125 cc Aprilia motorbike.

Thanks to the power provided by the Aprilia single-cylinder, 2-stroke 125 cc racing-derived engine, the MX 125 is a machine that “eats the elbows”, putting bikes with a more sporting design and higher power in difficulty on mixed routes. The APRILIA MX 125 is therefore destined to become the king of the elbows, in the hills or in the mountains, thanks to its top performance and the handling and ridability of a sporting motorbike. Yet this won’t stop its young purchaser from using it to go to school or go out with friends, even with the girlfriend comfortably on the back, thanks to the approval for transporting passengers.

The reactivity of the ride and the feline sprint of the “Sport Production” derived two-stroke engine make the Aprilia Supermotard a perfect “take off” bike at the lights, with complete peace of mind, thanks to the suspension, brakes and tyres worthy of a larger capacity motorbike, making the bike extremely safe and comfortable in all the hazards that lurk on city roads. Paving stones, manhole covers, train tracks and holes can be faced on the MX 125 with double the safety of the normal scooter usually used around the town.

All, naturally, “sauced up” by a line designed based on the most modern style concepts of the Supermotard speciality, but with the ever present mark of the Aprilia personality, which has always brought to each of the segments it operates in an unmistakeable and often indelible sign of its style, with genial and innovative ideas.
Supermotard means safe fun and an authentic riding feeling. Aprilia interprets this philosophy, shared by the young, true motorcycling enthusiasts, to perfection. The MX 125 puts these concepts on the road.

DESIGN
Significant work has been done in terms of aesthetics by the APRILIA designers, who have especially created a brand-new front section for the MX 125, made up of the new generation mudguard, front fairing and transparent headlight; the ducts, the side panels, the plate holder and the smaller and better connected rear headlight, the aluminium handlebars and the modern digital dashboard.

RIDING POSITION
The MX 125 is a true supermotard, as demonstrated by its trim and the riding position; the saddle, the footrests (widened for better grip), the suspension, the brakes and the 17” spoke wheels make the MX 125 a winning supermotard.

BRAKES AND SUSPENSION
The braking system on the APRILIA Supermotard is extremely powerful for a 125 cc bike: a 320 mm front disk with floating two-pot calliper, and a 220 mm rear disk, also with floating calliper. The 40 mm upside-down telescopic fork features a wheel travel of 260 mm. The rear end features an adjustable single hydraulic shock absorber with piggy back (able to guarantee uniform operation); the wheel travel is 280 mm.

WHEELS
The main technical development in the creation of the Supermotard involves the wheels. In the case of the MX 125, the new components include aluminium spoke rims, 3.00” x 17 at the front and 4.25 x 17 at the rear. As a consequence, the tyres chosen are the large 110/70-17” and 150/60-17” road wheels, on the front and rear respectively.

ENGINE
The MX 125 engine is well known to 125 cc bike enthusiasts and experts, the superlative APRILIA liquid cooled engine, with balancing countershaft. The cylinder has a nickel and silicon carbide coating, which can deliver high power while ensuring long piston life. The exhaust is made from stainless steel, with built-in catalytic converter. An “absorption” type stainless steel silencer is used, for better noise abatement. All naturally in compliance with the upcoming Euro 2 emission standards. Lubrication is managed separately using a mixer.

DASHBOARD
No corners have been cut in terms of the dashboard, confirming the desire to create a versatile and practical bike for everyday use: the MX 125 digital dash features a new, innovative design, with all the functions required for the sporting use of the bike, and not only. Instant speed, maximum speed (recorded), average speed, odometer, trip time, lap time, clock, flat battery signal, oil in the mixer in reserve warning, service request signal. All this plus the 5 lights for the blinkers, neutral gear, low beam, high beam and the engine temperature/oil level.

The APRILIA MX 125 is dedicated to today’s sixteen year olds, for whom the scooter is no longer exciting, lovers of the motorbike and the sporting ride, but who find the exciting 125 sporting road bikes uncomfortable and a little impractical. A versatile, high performance Supermotard, yet sleek and light for everyday use. Quality, performance, advanced components and an appealing design are the keywords that describe this Aprilia Supermotard.

Aprilia Mana X Concept

Aprilia Mana X concept. Based on the 850 Mana, it has a 90°, 850cc V-Twin mated to a super-sized CVT transmission. It keeps the Mana's trellis frame, but with a new internally braced swingarm. Wheels are laced jobs, with the rear getting the 180/70-16 Dunlop D427 designed for Harley's FXDF Fat Bob! Braking is handled by wave-style rotors and the Brembo-like, radial-mount calipers found on the Mana, Shiver and Dorsoduro.

The rear shock and muffler are slung underneath, à la Buell. Styling is minimal and chic, with more than a passing nod to American street-trackers. Such spare, aggressive styling is to be expected from Aprilia's design studio in Noale; it's headed up by Miguel Galluzzi, who designed the first Ducati Monster in 1992. "All you need," as the big, friendly Argentine is quoted on Ducati's history website, "is a saddle, tank, engine, two wheels, and handlebars."

Aprilia RS4 50 and Aprilia RS4 125 (2011)

Aprilia RS 50 and Aprilia RS4 125
Aprilia's small supersports bikes have been completely revised. Two models dedicated for young enthusiasts who want their first experience in the motorcycling world to be with a proper bike.

* Aprilia RS4 marked a milestone in the evolution of the 125 cc motorcycle.
* For the first time ever, the sportiest bike available for 16 year olds was a 4-stroke.
* For the youngest riders of all, the Aprilia RS 50 embodies all of Aprilia's technology in a genuine racing replica in just 50 cc.

Aprilia has always been the undisputed leader in the 50 and 125 cc supersports segment, pioneering innovative concepts and solutions and setting trends for its rivals to follow.

The Aprilia RS4 125 is the natural successor and most advanced evolution to date of the Aprilia RS 125, the bike that has dominated the 125 cc sports class for years, which set the benchmark for the one-eighth litre sports segment and which is still today the most highly sought after machine among riders competing in the Sport Production category.

Aprilia RS4 125 introduces the highly advanced, all-new 4 stroke powerplant to the sports segment, while adopting styling and technical solutions inherited from the RSV4, the superbike that led Aprilia to victory in the WSBK 2010 championship.

The most significant characteristics of the Aprilia RS 50 and Aprilia RS4 are:

* RS4 125 - single cylinder liquid cooled 125 cc 4-stroke with electronic injection, 4 valves and double overhead camshafts (DOHC)

characteristics in common:

* extremely stiff aluminium perimeter frame derived from racing experience
* 41 mm upside down fork
* front brake with 300 mm disc and radial four piston calliper
* Superbike inspired analogue/digital instrument panel
* fairings derived directly from RSV4 project for total aesthetic coherence with the SBK world champion

Design

The livery and eye-catching forms of the Aprilia RS 50 and RS4 125 echo the looks of the Factory version of the Aprilia RSV4 supersports bike. And the RS 50 and RS4 125 share more than just a family resemblance with the most hardcore street version the bike dominating the world SBK championship.

The design of the fairings and tank, the unique looks of the front end, with the headlights suspended over the gaping air intakes, and the spectacular tapered tail fairing are identical to their counterparts on 1000 cc supersports model that set new standards in terms of style and technical content for the superbike segment.

Extensive aerodynamic studies have minimised surface areas without compromising wind protection, and the fairings showcase the superlative mechanicals of the Aprilia RS 50 and Aprilia RS4 125 rather than conceal them. As a result, the frame and engine are not hidden away but proudly flaunted as fundamental elements of the design of Aprilia's new small supersports models. With the triple headlight, the Aprilia RS 50 and RS4 have a decidedly aggressive look that lends a unique character to the entire front end. The LED taillight merges stunningly into the ultra-compact tail fairing and offers excellent luminosity. Even from behind, the Aprilia RS4 125 is absolutely unmistakable.

The product of extensive wind tunnel testing and race experience, the fairing offers excellent wind protection together with superb aerodynamic efficiency. And as well as contributing to the extremely aggressive looks of the bike, the top fairing and tail fairing also maximise performance in terms of speed.

Engines

With the new RS 50 and RS4 125, Aprilia confirms its global leadership in the small capacity sports bike segment, creating models that exceed the expectations of even the most discerning rider.

The sophisticated chassis architecture of the Aprilia RS 50 and RS4 125 is complemented by state of the art engines.
The single cylinder 50 cc unit developed by Aprilia for the RS 50 is a water cooled two-stroke with reed valve induction. The lubrication uses a separate mixing system with a variable capacity volumetric pump. The six speed gearbox lets the rider make full use of the performance of this class beating engine.

The Aprilia RS4 is powered by an all new 125 cc water cooled 4 stroke single cylinder engine with four valves and electronic engine boasting a sophisticated double overhead camshaft (DOHC) valve timing system. This state of the art engine produces the maximum power output permitted for the class with a smooth, linear delivery and ecologically - as it meets even the strictest emissions regulations in effect.

With a six speed gearbox allowing the rider to make full use of the power available in all conditions, the Aprilia RS4 offers unbeatable performance in its class not just in terms of absolute power at high engine speeds, but also in terms of usable power band, minimised vibration and outstanding mechanical reliability.

The product of a cutting edge design, the new single cylinder 125 cc unit features dry sump lubrication making it extremely light and compact, allowing Aprilia's engineers to develop a class beating chassis layout.

Chasis

The RS 50 and RS4 125 stand head and shoulders above the competition for their superlative chassis layout: developed on the basis of Aprilia's outstanding successes in WSBK and GP 125, the frame consists of die cast aluminium spars with crossed reinforcement ribs. With its state of the art design, this extremely lightweight structure offers exceptional torsional stiffness.
The front suspension also boasts a class beating layout, with a sturdy 41 mm upside fork, red anodised stanchion clamps and a wheel travel of 110 mm, while at the rear is a monoshock linked directly to the asymmetric swingarm.

Both the Aprilia RS 50 and RS4 125 boast class beating brake systems: each bike uses a 300 mm steel disc at the front, gripped by a four piston radial calliper, and a 220 mm disc at the rear with a single piston calliper.
The 17” wheels are shod with 100/80 rubber up front and a 130/70 tyre at the rear.

The multifunctional analogue/digital instrument panel with LCD display draws directly from Aprilia's experience in the Superbike class. The split 6-spoke design of the wheels further emphasises the purposeful character of Aprilia's latest small capacity sports bikes.

On Aprilia RS4, one additional detail underscores the level of sophistication of the bike: the exhaust, which is unmistakably inspired by competition machines, is completely integrated within the lower part of the fairing. A solution that is not just visually effective, but which also contributes significantly to the dynamics of the bike by helping to centralise masses.

The passenger saddle is yet another example of the extreme level of sophistication of these new bikes from Aprilia. Instead of fiddly screws, a practical quick release button allows the passenger seat to be exchanged with the tail fairing cover in an instant to transform the bike from two seat to single seat configuration

Aprilia FV2 1200 Concept

The Aprilia FV2 1200 is a concentration of technical innovation, a blend of technology, performance, and pure adrenaline. This amazing concept bike embodies the sum total of Aprilia's current technical know-how and points in the direction that technical development is likely to take at Noale in the next few years.

2007 was the twentieth anniversary of Aprilia's first GP win and a year in which another four world championships were won. This extraordinary achievement is a repeat of Aprilia's 2006 success story and takes the total of Aprilia's world championship titles to an amazing

What better technical and sporting heritage could there be behind the Aprilia FV2 1200 concept bike? The FV2 1200 embodies the latest Aprilia technology and reveals the direction likely to be taken by technical and stylistic development at Aprilia in the near future.

The heart of the FV2 1200 is Aprilia's mighty, 1200 cc, 90° V twin, a power plant that confirms Aprilia's determination to develop high capacity, high technology engines using in-house skills and competence.

The minimalist bodywork of the FV2 1200 creates a stunning preponderance of volume towards the front of the bike. The result is a revolutionary, courageous and futuristic look that is destined to form the solid basis for the evolution of Aprilia motorcycle styling.

The engine also fulfils a structural role, and acts as the starting point for the backbone of the motorcycle, a carbon fibre, load bearing frame with integrated filter box. The seat is supported by an aluminium beam and by two carbon fibre struts that extend into the tail and around the rear light cluster. The parallelogram front suspension is based on the system already tried and tested on Aprilia's 250 cc GP racers.

These futuristic solutions have led to an amazing weight reduction (the FV2 1200 weighs under 160 kg) and an extremely compact size. The extraordinary agility that has always typified Aprilia motorcycles therefore finds its utmost expression in the FV2 1200.

The 1200 cc V twin engine is liquid cooled and boast a ride-by-wire control system. Traction control, a latest generation ABS system and electronic suspension management are also provided to let you ride at your performance peak while maintaining complete control over the bike.

The Aprilia FV2 1200's dashboard incorporates a multi-functional instrument cluster that can be interfaced not only with the bike's own CAN line but with a PC too, making it possible to download telemetric data for personal performance evaluations, reconfigure the information shown on the matrix display, load new mappings from the internet, display itineraries, and integrate GPRS and GSM modules for mobile phone connectivity.

Aprilia ETV 1000 Caponord

The large-capacity trail-styled bike market is a lucrative one in Europe, and Aprilia's entry is certainly distinctive. The large twin-headlamp fairing follows the quirky design brief of the rest of the firm's bikes, while providing good weather protection. The familiar RSV Mille-based engine has been re-tuned to produce 73kW (98bhp) rather then the 97kW (130bhp) of the donor bike, providing a flatter, less peaky power delivery, more suited to relaxing progress. The unusual 'Double Wave' frame is very stiff, and long-travel suspension soaks up the worst bumps. Like most big-bore trailbikes, the Caponord is mainly aimed at touring use, so it has a large 25-litre (5.5 gal) fuel tank, spacious pillion accommodation and a large, comfy dual seat.

Aprilia Blue Marlin

Unveiled at the 2001 Milan Show, the Blue Marlin is an advanced prototype model designed in collaboration with French company Boxer Design. It uses a back-to-basics approach to provide a rawer sportsbike experience. The 60° V-twin engine common to all of Aprilia's large-capacity bikes is housed in a steel-tube frame with aluminium rear plates. The line of the frame continues back up to the tail unit, in the style of race machines from the 1950s and 1960s. There are modern elements to the design too, with an aluminium tube swingarm, upside-down front forks and a purposeful twin headlamp nosecone. While the Blue Marlin looks simple, its components are very high quality, including Öhlins suspension and Brembo brakes.
